Community Service Block Grant

Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) funds are used to develop programs and services designed especially to meet local needs. The following are the programs offered by Will County Center for Community Concerns.

Housing Counseling

The Housing Counseling Program provides counseling to homeowners and/or potential homeowners in areas such as Pre-purchase / Homebuyers Education, Mortgage Default / Foreclosure Prevention, Pre-Foreclosure Sale Options, Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM). HUD approved.

Emergency Services

The Emergency Services Program provides assistance to individuals or families who are facing eviction or are threatened to have their water service disconnected.

Employment Support

The Employment Support Program assists eligible customers with such items as daycare cost, transportation and work supplies that enable them to obtain/maintain employment.

Prescription Drug Assistance

The Prescription Drug Assistance Program issues vouchers for prescribed medications to eligible customers for use at participating pharmacies.

CSBG Scholarship Program

The CSBG Scholarship Program awards scholarships each year to low-income and disadvantaged students of high academic achievement or potential. Students must be enrolled or enrolling in an accredited institute of higher education in the state of Illinois.

Family and Community Development

Key staff members, who are certified as Family and Community Development Specialists, provide intensive case management to promote self-sufficiency in the family. Together the case manager and family formulate goals and steps needed to achieve these goals.

Information/Referral Service

Clients are informed of and referred to other County resources which are available to assist them in becoming more self-sufficient.

Financial Literacy Program

The Financial Literacy Program is designed to educate participants on budgeting, money management, insurances, identity theft, credit and much more.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $53,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. This service is only by appointment during the tax filing season (late January through mid-April). Call our main number to schedule an appointment after the beginning of the tax filing season.

Veterans Dental Assistance

The focus of this program is to assist veterans with dental care that is not 100% covered through their veteran benefits.
